Can I take children on a yacht with me? 1 — Sparks Life Worldwide

Can I take children on a yacht with me?

Well, surely, yes! A sea trip on a yacht is an interesting adventure full of new emotions and discoveries for adults. There’s no doubt about children. This feeling when you discover new unknown places! It doesn’t matter that others have already been here before you :)).

The feeling of freedom and new sensations from the endless space of the open sea. Your children will definitely appreciate this voyage and will remember it for a long time. If organized correctly, children on a yacht are both safe and comfortable.

Besides their dream comes true. All children around the world dream of being a pirate on a real ship!

Children on a yacht. Some organizational tips

Since a yacht is a sea transport, some safety rules must be followed. Otherwise, there is a risk of injury. There are some simple tips to help you organize everything correctly. Here they are:

  1. You should explain to the child in advance what it is like to sail on a ship in the sea. For beginners, it can be difficult to cope with the peculiarities of yachting. There is not much space there, sometimes one feels a ship’s motions. So you have to watch carefully so as not to catch on to something and not to fall overboard. Some may be frightened by the motions and some may fear that the yacht will sink, others may behave recklessly and run around the railings, risking falling down. Thus, you have to explain everything very carefully. Your child not be afraid and not toy around. A sailing catamaran is much better suited for such a trip. Firstly, it is very stable, and secondly, there is much more space on it. It is clearly better for children, and besides, it looks very similar to a yacht. The romance of sailing will stay with you during a trip. Besides, as a rule, there is a net stretched between its two hulls on a catamaran. Those who love sunbathing can perfectly sit there. Children can use this net as a trampoline. Indeed, renting a catamaran costs significantly more than a yacht of the same length, but the choice of which of these is of more priority is up to you.
  2. Your child must be READY for a sea voyage. All children are different and react differently to your wishes and commands. But the precise execution of the skipper’s commands is the basis of personal safety onboard. That is why we cannot say exactly children of what age can be taken on board with you. You have to understand that a child is the same crew member like everyone else. The general procedures and rules on a yacht are applied to kids too. Besides, there is a man in charge of safety onboard – a skipper. Therefore, if you are 100% sure that your child will listen to what you say to him or her and will not indulge, against your will, you can safely take a kid on board with you. A child must clearly understand that there are situations when to stand aside. He or she must not interfere, not run on the deck, not block a skipper’s overview, and so on. No one knows your child better than you. So this is you who must determine for yourself whether a kid is ready for these conditions. Otherwise, your vacation can not turn into a nightmare. Since something is always happening on board, you can involve a child in certain jobs that he or she can do. For example, preparing mooring lines, giving fenders, working with a sail, and so on. When a child is busy with something, he or she will not have time for stupid things.
  3. Safety comes first. If you are going to take a child with you when booking a yacht, be sure to inform a manager in advance about the age and weight of your child. This is required to pick up a child’s life jacket. Like all the rest of the crew, your child must be instructed in safety rules. He or she must know where the life jacket is and understand how to put it on and take it off. Your child must know what to do during a fire or other emergency. If your child is of preschool age, you can order a protective net for the handrail along the sides of the boat. Besides, you, as a parent, must ensure that your child does not overheat in the sun. In the open sea with a slight breeze, a kid can easily get heatstroke. Make sure a child has a head covered with some hat. Be sure to take sun-protection cream with you. It is important to take care of the correct shoes – they must be closed. A child should not slip and fall overboard. And most importantly, you have to remember that your child’s safety is only your responsibility. None of the team members will look after your kid. Children on a yacht must understand that there are certain rules to follow.
  4. Plan your route correctly. When choosing and booking a tour, make sure to study its plan in detail. There must be no more than 30 miles (up to 3 hours) crossings. Your child does not get bored and looks for unnecessary adventures. There will be no Internet in the sea, and your gadget is unlikely to help you. Thus, we advise you to plan your route so that something interesting happens every hour. For example, stop in bays and swim, diving stops, going ashore, and so on. The more different events, the better.

You can ask our managers about all your questions regarding the organization of your child’s travel. They will tell you in more detail about how it can be organized.
